The Yellowknife Community Foundation and the NWT Soccer Association on behalf of the Yellowknife United Soccer Club are pleased to announce the creation of the United Soccer Coaching Fund established to support the development of soccer coaching in the Northwest Territories.

Vivian Hansen, one of the founders of the United Soccer Club which operated in Yellowknife from 1990 to 2017 said “We hope this scholarship will help those athletes who are interested in coaching and furthering their education.  We are not looking for the next Christine Sinclair or Ronaldo but rather a young person who is interested in coaching and mentoring the next generation of soccer players in the Northwest Territories.”

Bronwyn Watters, President of the Yellowknife Community Foundation said, “We are very pleased to work with NWT Soccer on behalf of the United Soccer Club to establish this new scholarship. Support for coaches and leaders in sport is very important to improving the quality of soccer programs and the tremendous benefits all participants receive from playing ‘the beautiful game’.

The United Soccer Coaching Fund will begin receiving applications in March of 2019. Individuals seeking scholarships are encouraged to go to the Foundation’s website to review the application process.

The Yellowknife Community Foundation was formed in 1993 to provide interested individuals and organizations with a means of supporting projects in our community for the enduring future. The Foundation is not singularly dedicated to any specific area of support. It embodies a simple concept – that people working together can make a difference.
