The Yellowknife Community Foundation is excited to administer the Tom Williams Memorial Scholarship and the Alfred Moses Memorial Scholarship for Housing NWT this year, alongside 40 other scholarships and student awards for Northern students. The scholarship application period runs from April 2 to May 31, and students can submit their applications through our online portal, here starting April 2.

The Tom Williams Memorial Scholarship and the Alfred Moses Memorial Scholarship were established in 2023 by Housing NWT, in memory of Tom Williams who served as Housing NWT’s President and CEO, and Alfred Moses, who was an MLA for Inuvik Boot Lake and the Minister Responsible for Housing in 2018.

Six $1,000 scholarships are available from the Tom Williams Memorial Scholarship, and six $1,000 scholarships available from the Alfred Moses Memorial Scholarship. To be eligible, applicants must be a Northwest Territories (NWT) resident and a part-time or full-time post-secondary student enrolled in a certificate, diploma, degree or other approved training program related to housing.  In total, 12 scholarships are awarded annually, two in each Housing NWT district (Beaufort-Delta, Nahendeh, North Slave, Sahtu, South Slave) plus two in Yellowknife.

More on the application process at the Yellowknife Community Foundation

The Yellowknife Community Foundation recognizes that Northern students are balancing academics, careers, and personal goals and expectations, so we strive to make applying for scholarships and student awards as simple as possible. Our universal application form streamlines the process by first guiding students through an eligibility quiz that identifies all the awards they qualify for, then allowing them to complete any required supplementary questions in one place. Since the 1990s, we have been dedicated to supporting Northern students in achieving their educational goals by offering scholarships. As part of our vision to be a catalyst for sharing, support, and connected communities, we are committed to empowering Northern students to learn and grow.
