About the George Cleary Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 2021, the purpose of the George Cleary Memorial Scholarship Fund is to support Indigenous residents of the Northwest Territories and Sahtu beneficiaries pursuing post-secondary or trades educations, giving them the opportunity to help their communities grow and prosper.
Application process
Individuals interested in applying must create a profile on our scholarship application portal. Once your profile is created, you will need to complete our eligibility quiz and then submit a scholarship application to the George Cleary Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Applications will be made available during our scholarship intake season, in April/May 2024.

The George Cleary Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by the Cleary family. The scholarship is intended to encourage Indigenous residents and Sahtu beneficiaries of the Northwest Territories to pursue a post-secondary or trades educations, giving them the opportunity to help their communities grow and prosper.

Please note that award amounts vary year by year.
In order to be eligible to apply for the George Cleary Memorial Scholarship Fund, you must be:
- A beneficiary of the Sahtu Secretariat Incorporated or an Indigenous
resident of the Northwest Territories. - Pursuing a post-secondary or trades education at a recognized Canadian institution.
Priority is given to members of the Sahtu Secretariat.
Applicants are eligible to re-apply for grants in successive years.
All of our scholarship application forms and additional materials need to be submitted on our scholarship application portal.
You will complete a questionnaire describing why you are applying for the scholarship, how you have demonstrated your community involvement, the contributions you make to your community, and how the scholarship will benefit you, your community, and/or the North.
You must be an eligible resident to apply for a scholarship.
As such, YKCF requires you to make a residency declaration and have a witness sign off.
However, you do not need to print out any forms!
Each residency declaration is a one-click question embedded within the application process.
You just need to provide the email address of your residency witness, and they will be emailed directly.
You can only apply through our online application portal. In 2024, the application portal opens on April 2nd.

Mailed and emailed applications will not be accepted barring extreme circumstances.
