The Yellowknife Community Foundation partnering with the Northern Arts & Cultural Centre (NACC) is happy to announce the launching of a new pilot project, Losing Track of Days – NWT Artists & COVID-19.
As NWT artists confront new fiscal realities, we are proud to launch this new pilot project to address the urgent needs of professional artists. This initiative will put needed cash into the hands of professional artists who need our help not a hand-out. This $50,000 project is targeted at visual and performing artists of all practices from across NWT. This initiative will support professional artists with current projects and/or new works in the visual arts and performing arts. (Visual arts include both contemporary and traditional art practices.) Cross disciplinary projects and collaboration are welcome.
These grants will help artists adapt existing projects and/or aspects of their practice to meet these new challenges. The grants are designed to respond quickly in supporting professional artists with immediate creative opportunities.
The grants range from $1,000 – $5,000. All applicants who meet the criteria are required to apply using the attached form https://bit.ly/LosingTrackofDays-2021 and submit support materials demonstrating their professional art practice. All successful artists must sign a production/creation agreement before funding is dispersed and must agree to have their photo and project available for public promotion. Projects must be completed by 31 December 2021.
Maureen Crotty-Williams, NACC board Vice President “It is very satisfying to see both of these organizations achieve their goals of helping the community in the launch of this project. The mandate of the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre is to support the arts and nurture northern artistic talent – this initiative helps us to do exactly that, particularly at a time when support is needed most and intended not just for new projects but also what they are working on and current projects. I am looking forward to seeing what these artists create – something as difficult as this pandemic can be the catalyst for the creation of new works of art.”
Scott Marsden, YK Community Foundation “The widespread cancellation of cultural events has affected many artists who rely on exhibitions, performances, readings, workshops, and other activities to pay their bills and make a living. Now, more than ever, it is important that we support impacted artists in NWT. Our new initiative will put needed cash into the hands of professional artists who need our help not a hand-out. Artists build a sense of community based on values we all share in the NWT and it is within this context that the Yellowknife Community Foundation and the Northern Arts Cultural Centre are happy to announce the launching of a new funding initiative, Losing Track of Days – NWT Artists & COVID-19.”
Deadline for applications is Friday 15 January 2021 at 5:00pm MT.
Awards will be made within one month of the deadline, after review by committee, barring any unforeseen events. For more information, please contact Marie Coderre at Northern Arts and Cultural Centre at ead@naccnt.ca.
